Yes, I can cook for myself, but why would I when I have award winning chefs, ethically sourced ingredients, and the most delicious food down the block? I love how we can walk from place to place, eating and breathing this fresh mountain air. It’s a full-body experience.

Breakfast Like a Local

Waking up to this fresh mountain air in itself is so purifying. It feels good to begin each day with refreshing nutrients and bountiful energy. Be like us locals and walk from your hotel to one of Banff’s wonderful coffee bars. Evelyn’s is locally owned and offers yummy bagels, satisfying smoothies (get the peach!), and of course great coffee. Grab a coffee or tea to go and take some time to wander along the river path. I bet you’ll see elk! On your next morning, head to Wild Flour Bakery. This is where my friends and I meet before heading out for a hike or bike. The aroma alone is worth walking into this bakery for. Take away a warm san

A meal in the in the sky – Gondola Access

Sky Bistro is a new restaurant perched on the summit of Banff’s Sulphur Mountain. An 8-minute enclosed gondola ride brings you to the top of the mountain where the restaurant and interpretive center awaits. The meal prepared by our award-winning chef will please all ages and tastes. With floor to ceiling windows, you’re sharing your table with the lofty Rocky Mountains. Be sure to go to the top floor for outdoor warming fire pits and the grandest view of majestic peaks, larch trees, and bighorn sheep. I love it up here at all times of the day - lunch, sunset, or a starry night.

Alberta Beef - It’s not seafood you’re coming to the mountains for

Alberta is known for its beef. Our ranches with rich soil and glacier-fed water produce bountiful cattle. From farm to table, Chuck’s Steakhouse features Angus cattle which were raised munching Alberta’s sweetgrass. The cuts are dry-aged in house, and the end result on the plate excites meat lovers from all over. Whether you opt for the burger (I loved this for lunch), ribeye, steak Frites (notable mention of amazing fries!), it is all deliciously flavourful! I never did try the ultimate millionaire cut of Canadian wagyu, so you should, and tell me how it is. I know you’re booking here for the Alberta Beef, but remember to check out those Banff mountains as you sit and digest. Every seat has a view.

Atmosphere perfection at The Maple Leaf

Located in the middle of the main street and gazed upon by Cascade Mountain, The Maple Leaf is truly Canadiana and a place I visit over and over. The log cabin interior with wooden walls, barn doors, and local art is so cozy and inviting that you melt into the surroundings. Seduce your tastebuds with duck wings, before moving on to the Maple Leaf salmon and prawns, or maybe get on your inner-Albertan, and try the cowboy steak. Whatever you choose as a main, you must leave time for what I affectionately call the Chocolate Explosion. It is the best chocolate soufflé and dessert on the street. Make sure to order ahead in case they are running out. (That was my worst day ever)

Embrace your Canadian

Poutine is a must! Cheese curds smothered in gravy over fries. Try it at Nourish, Banff Ave Brewing Co, Banff Poutine, or my quickie vegan & gluten-free favorite at Aardvark Pizza. Poutine is a well-deserved warm treat after a day outside. And since we are treating, indulge in an irresistibly delicious Beavertail; a pastry heritage. If you’re my family, then you may have received a caramel apple wrapped in Smarties in the mail. These are seriously so good; I’ve shipped them across Canada. Mountain Chocolates is on Main Street and should be a part of your every day while you visit Banff. It just smells so good, like you’ve been embraced in a passionate hug. I love hugs.

Vegan Locals Favourite – Who would have thought?

After all this animal talk, I have to let you know that I actually became a vegetarian over a year ago. But even before that transition, Nourish was an oasis because the food is so pleasing and leaves my friends and I feeling as if we can climb up any mountain the next day. Their nachos have 27 ingredients! Yes – 27! And they are the best ever. Nourish began really tiny, with only locals knowing how to find them, but they’ve grown and are now on famous Bear Street, so I definitely recommend reservations. If you just want to grab and go, it is well worth ordering the wild mushroom ravioli or king kong noodles. I beg you, be good to your body and give it what it desires - like a Nourish Purple Haze
